Fernet Hunter
COUNTRY: Austria
REGION: Brunnwald
Raphael Holzer’s family history is steeped in alcohol production. His great grandfather, Oskar Holzer, was a key figure in the rise of Fernet Stock in Trieste, Italy. Oskar helped build the Stock empire and guided the company through many adversities, including its relocation to Linz, Austria during the Second World War. Oskar’s son Guido followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming an accomplished distiller at Stock, and ultimately starting his own company in the late 1960’s: Holzer & Holzer. In turn, Guido’s son Gilbert eventually took over the family business and its legacy of distilling in the Brunnwald Forest, 30 kilometers north of Linz. This is where Raphael grew up, where his own passion for the spirits began, and where Fernet Hunter is now produced.
