Domaine des Albatros is the project of Julien Cartier, based in Chignin, Savoie. Raised in a family of winemakers, he began to take over the vineyards in 2019 and produced his first vintage in 2023. Julien comes from a unique background. As a trained intensive-care doctor, he also took part in scientific missions in Antarctica, which inspired the domaine’s name.
The vineyard brings together several emblematic Savoie grape varieties, including Jacquère, Altesse, Roussanne, Gamay and Mondeuse. Julien farms organically and biodynamically, harvesting by hand with particular attention to the terroir.
He makes wines with indigenous yeast fermentation, with very little intervention. The goal is not to produce showy wines, but precise, digestible cuvées deeply tied to the terroirs of Chignin.
