Vignoble de la Bauge

COUNTRY: Canada

REGION: Quebec

Simon Naud & Steve Beauséjour

In 1976, the Naud family founded La Bauge – a boar farm an hour outside of Montreal. In 1986, after a decade of dairy farming, husband and wife Alcide and Ghislaine Naud established a winery on their land. They ran the wine operation together until 1986, at which point Simon, their youngest son, took the reins. In 2016, the family began the transition to organic farming, and in 2019, Steve Beauséjour joined Simon in the cellar, bringing with him a robust knowledge and passion for natural wine.

Since 2020, the winery has upheld a resolute commitment to the tenets of natural winemaking: minimal intervention in the vineyard and the cellar, hand-harvested fruit, native yeast fermentation, zero fining or filtration, and zero sulfur.

The vines at La Bauge are planted on an eastward sloping hill on silty-sandy sediment soil. They coexist on the farm with a veritable “zoo” of alpacas, boars, deer, yaks, among others. Sheep are brought directly into the vineyards and ducks roam the property freely.
