Domaine Leonine

COUNTRY: France

REGION: Roussillon

Nestled in the foothills of the Albères in Saint-André, Pyrénées-Orientales, this estate, established in 2005, spans around a dozen hectares across four villages: Saint-André, Argelès-sur-Mer, Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines, and Port-Vendres. Dedicated to organic farming, the domaine employs traditional methods like hoeing and pickaxe work to manage the soil, alongside natural treatments of sulfur, copper, nettles, and horsetail to care for the vines.

In the cellar, the philosophy is simple yet rigorous: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, no fining or filtration, and all handling done by gravity. Reds and maceration whites age in Burgundy barrels, with a focus on preserving the authenticity of the terroir. The domaine’s "pompophobic" approach humorously emphasizes their disdain for interference, ensuring a direct connection between the grape and the glass.

With a commitment to respecting the vines, the land, and the people who enjoy their wines, the domaine crafts bottles that are pure, digestible, and a true reflection of the region. Their goal is as much about fostering joy—whether in the vibrant green of the vineyards or the smiles of those sharing a glass—as it is about winemaking itself.
