Maison Maenad
COUNTRY: France
REGION: Jura
Maison Maenad is the Jura domaine of Canadian vigneronne Katie Worobeck. After working in vineyards in Ontario, she moved to France and spent five years with Anne Ganevat and Jean-François Ganevat before starting her own project.
She farms about three hectares of old vines in Au Carré near Grusse in the Jura wine region, planted to Savagnin, Chardonnay, Poulsard and Trousseau. The vineyards follow organic and biodynamic principles with a focus on soil health and biodiversity.
Winemaking takes place in a small cellar beneath her home in Orbagna. Grapes are hand pressed, élevage occurs in older barrels, and the wines are bottled by gravity, unfiltered and without additions. The wines are fragrant, energetic and clearly reflect the limestone and marl soils of the site.
