COUNTRY: Hungary
REGION: Barabas
Annamária Réka Koncz is a winemaker in the Barabas region of Hungary. Her horticultural studies as an undergraduate and higher education research into yeast species in South Africa led her to explore winemaking all around the world. The region is defined by a similar climate to the Tokaj region in Hungary, displaying diverse wildlife in the mountains and nearby grasslands. Due to many factors including the volcanic history of the terroir, the wines show a rich acidity. Annamária’s wines are small batch wines, due to the overcropped nature of the terroir during the Soviet Era. She is the only producer of natural wines in the Barabas region.
